PURCHASING A HOME
One of the biggest investments you will make is purchasing a home. You will want to be sure that the home you are moving into is not going to be toxic to you or your family’s health. You want as clear of a picture as you can of what you are buying in terms of air quality.
You may be in a renter and need testing results and expert testimony to present to the owner or the court. You may be in litigation involving a contractor or builder as well and need a consultant to testify on your behalf.
A MAJOR CHANGE
You may have been living in a home and notice that something has changed in the home. There may be odors present that weren’t there before, or those living in the space may develop health problems. Paint may start peeling, or the walls streaking or appear to have microbial growth. Something is wrong, but you don’t know what.
In a classic home inspection for real estate transactions, the home inspector will not be testing for air quality. They will be looking for active problems and not focus on prior damage that may still affect the environment of the home.
Neighborhood accidents such as chemical spills, or a large fire near the house can cause toxic conditions inside a home. Workers may have uncovered asbestos or mold during a renovation. Animals may have invaded your basement or crawl space and have left excrement or even died, and you have to deal with the odors left behind.
